Star Casino’s operator has pushed back its lavish opening event in Brisbane, Australia to Easter 2024. The AU$ 6 billion resort and casino will no longer open in time for Christmas 2023. Instead, Brisbane’s only casino, The Treasury, will keep its license and play a little longer on its local stage.
Grand Size and Grand Entertainment
The new development will cover a giant ten-block area. With over fifty bars, restaurants, and five hotels, there will be entertainment and dining options for any budget or taste. Three six-star hotels are planned to cater for highflyers – and high rollers of the casino. Situated on the edge of the river, a Sky Deck on the 25th floor will take advantage of the stunning views.
The casino will be joined to the capital city’s largest entertainment area, South Bank, by a new cross-river walking bridge. South Bank precinct contains a tropical beach, perfect for the 300+ sunny days per year that Brisbane boasts. Also included in the project is the redevelopment of the complex containing the state’s premiere theatres, The Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).
Star Casino will be a jewel in the crown of this tourism mega-attraction. The project is estimated to draw an extra 1.4 million tourists to the city per year. Set to turn the city’s entertainment industry on its head, local and state governments are welcoming of the transformation and investment.
Treasury Casino to Become Star Casino
The current sole casino of Brisbane, “The Treasury” will be re-named Star Casino in its new location. At Star’s opening, The Treasury will hand over its operating license – one of only four in the state. Its new name reflects a majority owner, Star Entertainment Group Ltd. Star also operates another casino in the same state of Queensland, The Star Gold Coast.
The project will be brought to fruition by Destination Brisbane Consortium, a partnership between The Star Entertainment Group and its Hong Kong-based counterparts, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, and Far East Consortium. Alongside the construction and gambling industries, Hong Kong and Brisbane’s touristic ties increase with this project. Extra plane flights are scheduled between the two cities after opening.
The current Treasury Casino occupies a heritage-listed building. It is the location of the first state government’s treasury department. Once renovated head-to-toe, the Ritz-Carlton Group will take over the whole building. It will feature a high-end retail centre on the lower floors and more luxurious hotel rooms on the upper levels, all under the Ritz-Carlton name.
Gaming and Poker at The Star Brisbane
The new Star Casino’s license will be exercised by Star Entertainment (previously known as Echo Entertainment). They already have a deal with the Queensland Government for 1,700 but they plan to have 2,500 slot machines on their floors. All the popular table games – blackjack, craps, and roulette – will still be available.
The casino is expected to actively target Asian gaming tourists. The current Treasury Casino, which will become Star Brisbane, has a poker room that offers Hold’em, Omaha, and rotation games. New games like Baccarat and Sic Bo tables are a highly anticipated addition, especially in the VIP and private rooms. As the casino gets closer to its anticipated opening in 2024, more information on its gaming capacities will become available.
The casino will benefit from the visitors to other features of the development, such as the rooftop cinema for moonlit screenings, and a sophisticated event venue for formal occasions. The resort and casino development at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane is poised to become a renowned destination, providing guests with a lavish and unforgettable experience.
